VALIUM^®  (Diazepam) is a benzodiazepine tranquilizer with a broad spectrum of action. It relieves anxiety and tension, regulates autonomic function and has calming, sleep promoting, muscle relaxant and anticonvulsant effects. It is therefore suitable for use in treatment, or as a supplement to specific therapy of a number of disorders.

VALIUM^® is well tolerated. However, when the dose is not properly adapted to the individual case, side effects may occur. Mostly due to increased sedation and muscle relaxation (Sleepiness, fatigue, dizziness, muscle weakness); ataxia may occur in rare cases.

As with other psychoactive substances, patients should avoid alcohol while under the influence of the treatment. Like all medicaments of this type, VALIUM^® may modify the patients reactions (driving ability, behaviour in traffic etc) to a varying extent, depending on dosage, administration and individual susceptibility. If VALIUM^® is combined with centrally acting drugs such as neuroleptics, tranquilizers, antidepressants, hypnotics, analgesics and aneasthetics, their sedative effect may be intensified especially when VALIUM^® is given parenterally. This intensification can sometimes be exploited therapeutically.
